How to Travel by Ferry to Redang Island? 


While traveling to Redang Island by Air is the easiest option, many tourists opt for a ferry to Redang Island as it is a reliable and trusted mode of commuting to Pulau Redang. These visitors either head to Shahbandar Jetty, which is situated in the mainland Kuala Terengganu, or the Merang Jetty. Which jetty should the visitors head to depend on the route they wish to take or which resort they have booked at the Island.

Ferry to Redang Island 


Most of the resorts in Redang operate their own ferries which usually depart from Merang jetty and directly goes to the particular resort in Redang. While other resorts will make use of the Shahbandar jetty that arrives at the Kampung Jetty in Redang. From Kampung the tourist further gets to their particular resorts through a boat. The resorts offer the ferry services in one of their vacation packages.
The Shahbandar jetty is located in Kuala Terengganu, while Merang jetty is situated in Merang village, which is about 40 minutes from Kuala Terengganu. It is Shahbandar jetty from where the only public ferry transfers the tourists or visitors from Shahbandar to Redang Island. The cost of one sided ticket is MYR50 (Malaysian Ringgits) for adults and MYR25 for children.
While the resorts that operate their own public ferries deduct the transport charges all along, those resorts that use public ferries, the tickets on the ferry is included in the resort’s package, or you may have to charge a little extra. To avoid such misunderstanding or confusion, you must check in with the resort packages without buying a separate ticket.

Merang Jetty

Tourists often confuse Merang with Marang. Marang is another town situated in the South of Kuala Terengganu. Merang jetty is as much 40 minutes away from the Kuala Terengganu by road, but a closest site in the area to Redang Island. Most of the resorts that operate their own ferries depart from Merang. Merang jetty has its own car-park and other facilities like refreshments and toilets.

Shahbandar Jetty

The Shahbandar Jetty is situated right in front of the Tourist Information Centre and the Post Office in Kuala Terengganu’s downtown. The Shahbandar Jetty is just 15 minutes’ walk from the coach station in Kuala Terengganu. The Maziah Palace, the Puteri hill and the Chinatown and shops, eateries and wet markets are some nearby attractions of Shahbandar jetty.
